Financial Planning

Financial planning at Integrity starts with the results you want, such as a reliable retirement income, a lower lifetime tax bill, and a protected estate, then builds the tax, retirement, insurance, investment, and estate decisions to get there. Financial planning is included as part of the investment management fee, so there is no separate planning charge.

Who this is for

  • Families in or near retirement who want their income, tax, and withdrawal decisions worked out before they start drawing on their savings
  • Professionals and business owners whose taxes, benefits, and equity have outgrown do-it-yourself planning
  • Expats and families with foreign assets or business interests
  • People who want a fee-only fiduciary rather than a product salesperson

Problems it solves

  • "Can we afford to retire, and when?" answered with your numbers, not rules of thumb
  • A tax return that is prepared every year but never planned
  • Insurance and benefits that were set up once and never revisited
  • Recommendations from a previous adviser that were never quantified or followed through

What makes it different

  • Your plan is developed by our team of financial professionals, so the tax detail and your goals are handled by the same person.
  • We publish our fees, take no commissions, and include financial planning as part of the investment management fee rather than charging for it separately.

Planning that is measured by results

Financial planning is only useful if it changes decisions and the decisions improve your numbers. Ours is built around a short list of outcomes we can measure:

  • How much you can spend in retirement, from which accounts, and in what order
  • What you will pay in tax over your lifetime under each option, and which option pays the least
  • When to claim Social Security, start Roth conversions, and exercise or sell concentrated stock
  • Whether your insurance and estate documents cover the risks that would derail the plan
  • What your family keeps after taxes and probate

Each recommendation comes with the number behind it, so you can see what it is worth before you act and whether it worked afterward.

What financial planning covers

We start with your goals and your documents: tax returns, account statements, pay stubs, benefits guides, and insurance policies. Then we model the alternatives and recommend the ones that improve the outcome, with the numbers behind each recommendation. Depending on what you need, planning covers:

Tax planning

Forward-looking tax planning, with particular depth for expatriates and people with foreign assets or business interests. Ryan is a CPA/PFS, so the advice is built with the tax return in mind.

Retirement planning

A savings target and investment policy tied to your retirement date, then a withdrawal plan that turns savings into income and tells you which account to draw from each year.

Insurance planning

A review of your current policies to make sure they meet your needs cost-effectively, with recommendations for new coverage only where it is necessary. We do not sell insurance.

Portfolio management

Tailoring your investment portfolio to lower taxes, pursue growth, and match your environmental, social, and faith-based values (if preferred).

Estate planning

Making sure everything you have worked for is protected and passed on to the people and causes you care about, coordinated with your attorney.

How we work with you

Our recommendations are specific, each with a dollar impact where one can be estimated. Making them is the easy part; the value comes from getting them done, so we track every open item with you until it is complete.

We work with you on a continuous basis to implement the recommendations, provide support, and coordinate with attorneys, CPAs, and other professionals when you need them.

Planning is not a one-time project here; it is part of how we manage your money for as long as we work together.

Questions about financial planning

What does financial planning at Integrity look like?

Advice rather than a document. We work through the decisions in front of you using your actual tax returns, account statements, pay stubs, benefits guides, and insurance policies, give you specific recommendations with the numbers behind them, and keep advising you continuously as your situation changes.

How much does financial planning cost?

Financial planning is included as part of the investment management fee. There is no separate planning charge, and you use as much or as little of it as you want. See our fees.

How often is the planning revisited?

When needed, not on a fixed schedule. We update the planning when your life or the tax law changes, whether that is a job change, a sale, a move, a new child, or a retirement date coming into view. The relationship itself is continuous, and your planner is always available to meet with you whenever you need.

Who receives financial planning?

Any client who wants it. Financial planning is offered to every client as part of how we manage money, not as an add-on: the planning sets the targets, the portfolio and tax work carry them out, and we measure both against those targets as we go. There is no obligation to use it.

Do you prepare tax returns?

No. Integrity Financial Planning does tax planning, not tax preparation. We are not a CPA firm; we model the decisions ahead of time, give you and your preparer specific recommendations, and coordinate with your preparer so they land correctly on the return.

Do you work with people outside Houston?

Yes. We are registered in Texas and Louisiana, and we meet virtually with clients across the United States and abroad, including U.S. expats.
