Financial planning
Included in the fee
Financial planning is included as part of the investment management fee. There is no separate planning charge: every client can draw on ongoing advice covering taxes, retirement, insurance, investments, and estate.

Fee questions
Is values-based investing an extra charge?
No. Environmental, social, and faith-based screens are included in the advisory fee for Personal Index Portfolios.
Is active tax management included?
It is optional. Active tax management applies to taxable accounts only (tax-deferred accounts such as IRAs do not benefit from harvesting) and carries a separate fee that we quote in your advisory agreement. Clients who elect it receive an annual estimated Taxes Saved report.
How is the fee billed?
Advisory fees are calculated as an annual percentage of assets under management, billed periodically in arrears or advance as described in your agreement and Form ADV Part 2A, and deducted from the account unless you choose to be invoiced.
Are there other costs?
Custodian transaction costs and the internal expense ratios of any ETFs in your portfolio are separate from our fee. Our portfolios are designed to keep them low: an all-ETF 70/30 portfolio runs a little under 5 basis points, and swapping the U.S. large-cap ETF for individual stocks lowers the blend to about 3.5 basis points.
Is financial planning really included, or is it an add-on?
It is included. Comprehensive financial planning is available to every investment management client as part of the advisory fee, with no separate planning charge. The scope is described in your agreement and Form ADV Part 2A.
Do you charge hourly or for a one-time plan?
Our published offering is the asset-based advisory fee, which includes financial planning. If you need a defined one-time project, ask; we will quote it in writing before any work begins.
